Blueprints for sewing

Blueprints for Sewing is a great website I found while looking for an indie pattern company that might have an interesting top to sew for my daughter’s birthday present. I’d already bought some Merchant and Mills selected fabrics: dark blue japanese seersucker and pale green washed Italian linen for the project from Fibresmith, https://fibresmith.com.au/ which is a small Yarraville shop that sells fabric and yarn online, with a fast service for my recent order.

The Blueprints for Sewing site sells a small number of patterns designed by a young Massachusetts woman who designs around architectural themes: cabin, modern, geodesic etc. She also does great variations and adaptations on the basic design or blueprint, giving plans for the ‘renovations’ as downloads and tutorials on her blog.

Her blog entries are also interesting, as she pursues a slow fashion approach, and involves local sewing people in testing her patterns.

The pattern instructions and tutorials look very thorough, too.

The patterns are downloadable as PDFs as well as being available as paper patterns, but there is also an Aussie company that sells the paper versions, although these are a lot more expensive than the PDF version …
